The two men were fired from their jobs just 93 days and 4 hours prior to this photo being taken. They had enough money to buy small amounts of food and rationing them from breakfast, lunch, and diner. They had to borrow from their kid’s art supplies to be able to make the signs they are wearing. They tried to keep their best clothes clean to make themselves presentable. However they soon had to stop washing their other clothes to keep a little extra money. They were even desperate enough to walk outside of the major businesses in the nearby city. They got many stares of sympathy and disapproving from the people they walked past who still had jobs. They must have stunk  because as the days wore on into the hottest part of summer they progressively got more sweaty and more poor. Every day they got more and more grimaces from strangers of either because of their appearance or desperation. They eventually did not have enough money to stay in their house do they had to move to one of the shanty towns.

In The Necklace  there was a woman who came from a middle class family who loved fancy things and luxury but could never attain it because of the job that her husband holds cannot pay for all of the things she wants. She did however get the chance to walk with the people who she admired and adored. She was having fun but she blew the chance to have a good life and an even better memory. She was embarrassed  by some parts of her clothing and it started and she did not treasure the moment and it was lost to her forever. Everyone should get a chance to walk with everyone else but not only does everyone not get one the ones that do sometimes do not even realize that they are. Those same people also don't take advantage of these situations and make the best of them.

I think that Mathilde should not have acted so guilty when she lost the necklace. When she rushed out of the building because of her appearance in her haste she could have lost the necklace and it would be an honest mistake. Had she told Mme. Loisel I'm sure she would understand and Mme. Loisel would have told her that the necklace was fake. Furthermore had she been honest I'm almost certain that  she would have then become one on two things; she could become more humble because of the fright or she could have become more fake and unhappy. I do however understand why she did all of these things. In the upper class it is important to look your best and to always be "perfect". It can lead people to do shallow things and to look, act, and dress like "plastic". I am however slightly disgusted with her attitude of never having enough even though she has more than enough to live comfortably. Having said that she eventually got her due when she  lost everything and was in the lower class.
