The two men were fired from their jobs just 93 days and 4 hours prior to this photo being taken. They had enough money to buy small amounts of food and rationing them from breakfast, lunch,and diner. They had to borrow from their kid’s art supplies to be able to make the signs they are wearing. They tried to keep their best clothes clean to make themselves presentable. However they soon had to stop washing their other clothes to keep a little extra money. They were even desperate enough to walk outside of the major businesses in the nearby city. They got many stares of sympathy and disapproving from the people they walked past who still had jobs. They must have stunk because as the days wore on into the hottest part of summer they progressively got more sweaty and more poor. Every day they got more and more grimaces from strangers of either because of their appearance or desperation. They eventually did not have enough money to stay in their house do they had to move to one of the shanty towns.
